Official Back to School News Announced

With a mere 12 days to go before school starts on Sep 1, Beijing has finally officially announced that primary, secondary, and kindergarten teachers and students must be in Beijing for 7 days prior to returning to campus.

The news was reported yesterday (Aug 19) by Beijing Education News, the official WeChat channel of the Beijing Education Committee.

The news does not come as a big surprise, as most schools have been notifying staff and parents of the likelihood of this requirement in anticipation of the official announcement.

Rumors have been floating around all summer, with some saying the requirement would be as long as 14 days and others saying it could be as short as 3.

Now that it’s been settled at 7 and with most schools starting Sep 1, that means being back in town no later than next Thursday, Aug 25.
